About Colorado

Colorado is full of peaks and mountains and has the highest elevation in the U.S. Not only seen as having some of the best skiing in the world, but the state also offers four distinct seasons and amazingly unique terrain. Mother Nature calls to avid rock climbers, hot air ballooners, horseback riders, and whitewater rafters.

Despite it being a destination for snowboarders and mountain men, Colorado's economy is driven by service industries such as business, medical, and professional services. The state is a large manufacturer of food products, electrical instruments, printing, and publishing. It is also relied upon as a transportation centerpiece and communication hub for the Rocky Mountain region.

Colorado's southwest corner was inhabited by the Anasazi Indians, who built their adobe homes into dry canyon walls. These cliff dwellers eventually disappeared and left their homes and artifacts behind for others to later discover. The first settlement of Colorado resulted in a mini gold rush that occurred in 1859 and brought some 50,000 people to the state.

Colorado has become a state with sleepy towns like Cascade and bustling metro centers like Denver. Rent a cabin near Mesa Verde or check into a spa resort in the snowy mountains of Ridgeway.

Some of the main tourist attractions include the Great Sand Dunes, Dinosaur National Monument, and the Royal Gorge Bridge, the world's tallest suspension bridge.
